SoundDiary is a four-piece progressive rock band formed in Vienna/Austria in 2007 In 2010 their debut album 'in_verse' was released. Situated mainly in the Pop/Rock-Genre this record shows already signs of progressive musical writing. Over the course of time their songs turned out to have more and more progressive elements, strongly influenced by bands like Dream Theater or Porcupine Tree. SoundDiary’s 2nd album 'A Book In My Hand' - which was released in 2014 - already reflects this development strongly. The following years were marked by the work on a concept-album, and in November 2019 the band finally released their highly acclaimed 5-act modern epic 'Anamnesis - Letter in a Bottle' via !records.
Background Magazine (NL) 5,0/5,0
“This recording has absolutely been worth all the time and effort which has been lovingly spent on it by SoundDiary. Highly recommended.”
Dutch Progressive Rock Page (NL) 8,5/10
“It seems there are a lot of concept albums released nowadays, making me wonder if this is becoming a modern trend (again), but if they have the same impact as this one I applaud every effort. Highly recommended.”
Prog Critique (FR) 4,5/5
“Les compositions bien harmonisées et positionnées intelligemment lui confère un charme évident. Une belle réussite!”
Empire Music (DE)
„Ein richtig starkes 75-minütiges Konzeptalbum, das vor allem Freunde des komplexen, anspruchsvollen und gleichzeitig eingängig-melodiösen Prog Rocks ansprechen dürfte.“
During the COVID-19 pandemic - long before the launch of ChatGPT - SoundDiary dealt with subjects such as Transhumanism and AI and soon figured out, that they should continue the story of ‘Anamnesis’.
The story of ‘FourWord - Fairy Tales for Cyborgs’, which is going to be released on the 29th of November 2024 is set in the future, where humankind ‘evolved’ to a species consisting of digital and artificial components. Feelings and concepts of emotional conditions are controlled by technical devices. The cyborgs lost any connection to the former human world. Until… The band aims to offer the best of two worlds - their conceptual approach as well as the return to their roots of classic songwriting.
Regarding live shows some of the band’s highlights were a gig at Europe’s largest open air festival (Viennese ‘Donauinselfest’), a concert in complete darkness (‘Dialogue in the Dark’) and winning the Vienna Band Contest. SoundDiary’s live qualities are their progressive songwriting, complex compositions, varied song structures and a unique sound atmosphere.
